Your Body Needs… stands out when it comes to massage and couples massage is no different.  We really take the time to listen to what each of you want to achieve from your session.  If one partner is seeking a massage to de-stress while the other wants deep tissue focus, no problem!  If one partner wishes to receive aromatherapy and the other does not or if the other partner wants a different aromatherapy blend, again, no problem.  Whether it’s your first time here or your five hundredth time, be assured that the two of you will experience a wonderful massage made for two but with your individual needs in mind!

We Care…

At Your Body Needs… we care about our clients; we not only care about taking care of your muscles but we also care about your skin!  We know that everything that is applied to your skin has an effect on your body, this is why we only use all natural ingredients.  We use cold pressed grapeseed oil in all of our massage sessions.  Grapeseed oil provides nutrients to your skin, does not contain parabens, mineral oil and there are no synthetics.  This goes not only for our massage blends (scroll to bottom of page for a list of blends), but for all of our products.

Be Their Valentine…

If you need a quick gift, you can’t go wrong with a massage gift certificate!  Gift certificates can be purchased on-line or in our studio.  We also have an array of gift packages available for purchase in our studio and plenty of other products to choose from in store or on-line!

October Essential Oil of the Month…Ginger!

1 Oct

Botanical Name: Zingiber officinale

Source: Root

Overview:

The aroma of ginger essential oil is one that is pungent, warm and spicy.  The warm and spicy qualities this essential oil has makes it perfect for autumn!  Ditch your synthetically fragranced candles and have fun creating diffuser blends this fall for your home. Ginger essential oil blends well with citrus oils and spice oils such as clove bud and cinnamon.

Ginger essential oil is perfect for use in massage because one of it’s therapeutic properties is analgesic (pain reliving).  At Your Body Needs ginger essential oil is an ingredient found in our Muscle Therapy Cream and Muscle Rub (which is one of the aromatherapy blends you can choose for your massage session).  Ginger essential oil also helps increase circulation making it ideal to use for muscle pain, arthritis pain and for treating cold hands and feet.  Another benefit of ginger essential oil is it can help to boost energy levels, combat nervous exhaustion and mental fatigue because it is stimulating.  For those out there that suffer from travel sickness this essential oil is for you since ginger helps to relive nausea!

Ginger essential oil is handy to have in your essential oil stash.  Use it for circulation, muscle pain, arthritis pain, to relieve nausea and to help reduce coughs and colds.   Add ginger essential oil to your life this month and reap the benefits it has to offer!  And don’t forget to schedule your massage appointment to experience ginger essential oil in our Blend of the Month: “Fall into Autumn” or in our Muscle Rub blend.

15 Things You May Not Know About Massage

21 Jan

Massage: the kneading of muscles and joints of the body with the hands to relieve tension or pain. This is one of the many definitions of massage.

We know that massage feels good but did you know that it is good for you and should be done regularly as part of healthy lifestyle?  Unfortunately the idea still exists that massage is a “treat” and is something for special occasions only.  In fact when massage is received on a regular basis all aspects of your body perform at more optimal levels.  There’s a reason why we feel good after a massage session, and also a reason why it should be adapted as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Generally maintenance massage is recommended once a month.  However, if you have muscle tissues that are really restricted or other specific work needed your massage therapist can discuss this with you to determine what frequency is right for you.  Massage is good for you, read on to see some other benefits that you may not know massage provides.

1. Drink water!  Water is beneficial for the entire body, and pre massage hydration is very important.  By keeping your body hydrated your muscle tissue will move better during a massage.

2.  That “tightness” we often feel in our muscles is from our daily postural habits which causes the muscles to shorten neurologically.  Massage helps to reset the muscle length.

3.  Massage can help lower blood pressure.

4.  Regular massage therapy can improve performance in exercise and sports as less tissue is restricted.

5.  Massage improves blood flow to tissues and enhances recovery via nutrient rich blood.

6.  Massage can help to decrease long-term chronic pain over time.

7.  Massage can assist in improving posture.

8.  Massage therapy can decrease dependency on N.S.A.I.D.( non- steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs, e.g. Advil).

9. Tight hamstrings contribute to low back pain, which massage can relieve through lengthening.

10. May help with nerve impingement like carpal tunnel.

11. May help relieve rotator cuff impingement.

12. May help relieve sciatica.

13.  Regular massage helps to strengthen the immune system.

14.  Massage helps to relieve anxiety and depression through the release of endorphins (those “feel good” chemicals in our brains).  In fact, clients who receive massage regularly have reported they feel happier and are better able to deal with stress.

15. Helps relive headaches and migraines.

If scheduling a massage is on your “to-do” list, call today and make that appointment happen!  You can also call us any time if you have any additional questions.  At Your Body Needs… we are here for you!  You can contact us at 443-292-4395.

Massage Therapy and Sciatica Relief

21 Oct

Sciatica causes many people undue pain on a daily basis. One of the causes for Sciatica is when the Sciatic nerve gets pinched by a muscle called the Piriformis( a deep muscle that rotates the femur). When this occurs it is called entrapment, as the muscle entraps the nerve, causing pain that can radiate down the leg.

One of the many benefits of Therapeutic Massage is that it can loosen this muscle, relieving its vice like grip on the Sciatic nerve and ease the pain this condition causes.

Massage Therapy vs Pampering Massage

4 May

Your Body Needs is a massage therapy studio – but we are not a spa. We don’t use terms such as “indulging” or “pampering” to refer to our massages. There are still many people who think of spa locations when they need a massage. A spa is often the choice should you be looking to take a few hours to be spoiled with royalties such as a robe and perhaps a light refreshment. Some of the choices at spas will be a massage of sorts. Most of the time, their massages tend to be light touch and have an assembly line feel to them. This is fine if it works for you and you don’t mind paying premium prices when all you need is a good massage.  A good massage is one that is unique and directed to your body’s needs. It should start with a conversation about the treatment you will be receiving that day between you and your therapist and you should feel a part of the treatment process. So, if your body is feeling tired and sore – it isn’t pampering that you need- your body needs therapy. Massage therapy is highly effective in the promotion of your health and preventive maintainance. Take the time to find the right massage for you and your body’s needs.
